The Liaison Psychiatry team is provided by Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and works in the Accident and Emergency (A&E) Department and on the wards of Queen’s Hospital in Burton-on-Trent.

The role is of this specialist team is to:

  • Assess and plan interventions for people arriving at A&E who seem to have mental health problems. 
  • Assess, plan and deliver interventions for patients admitted to hospital wards who seem to have mental health problems.
  • Provide training to hospital staff on the detection, signs, symptoms and management of common mental health conditions.

Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin

The Liaison Mental Health team is provided by Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and works in the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and Princess Royal Hospital providing complex mental health assessments in both the Emergency Department and inpatient wards.  The team also provide support to patients from The Redwoods Centre who are in either general hospital.

We are a team of mental health professionals who have specific expertise in helping people who present at the emergency department in a mental health crisis or following harming themselves. On the wards we assess and support people who have mental health problems which impact on their well-being, physical healthcare and general hospital discharge.

The team supports people aged 16 and over. At Royal Shrewsbury Hospital the service is all day, every day. At Princess Royal Hospital the service is 7 days a week 8am to 2am.

The role is of this specialist team is to:

  • Carry out face to face assessments of needs and risk using a bio-psychosocial model in line with best practice from the Royal college of Psychiatrists and NICE recommendations.
  • Assess, plan and deliver timely interventions for patients admitted to Emergency Departments and hospital wards who have mental health problems.
  • Provide training to hospital staff on a range of topics relating to mental health
