Specialist services recognised for making therapy more accessible page thumbnail

Specialist Service teams at MPFT have been recognised for their pioneering work to create online treatment and support packages for the benefit of their service users.

The teams were presented with the Product Innovator Award for their work in developing online treatment options for substance misuse, gambling harms, dentistry and eating disorders at the SilverCloud conference on 21 June.

SilverCloud is an online treatment option for anxiety and depression that has been used successfully within the Trust’s Talking Therapies Services for several years, with positive outcomes for service users, who reported that they had found these tools very useful.

To build on this success, the teams were keen to develop more online treatment options for different types of service users and worked with SilverCloud to develop new modules for alcohol and drug use. These provide low intensity online treatment options which can either be stand-alone interventions or part of a wider package of care.

Following the successful development of substance misuse modules, work is underway to develop modules for eating disorders and gambling harms, with plans set to launch them within the next three months.

Howard King, Managing Director of Specialist Services at MPFT who accepted the award on behalf of all the teams involved, said: “I’m very proud of the teams that worked hard to develop these service specific, new, and innovative online treatment packages. We all lead busy lives and have conflicting demands on our time and these packages provide greater choice and accessibility to treatment for our service users, as they can access them in their own time and without the need to attend face to face appointments.”
