The leadership of Midlands Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (MPFT) in supporting and protecting people to stay healthy has been recognised with a prestigious national accolade.
Professor Zafar Iqbal, Associate Medical Director of Public Health has been appointed Vice
Speaking of his excitement at his new role Prof Iqbal said: “We have an exceptional Board and fabulous staff at the faculty. I’m thrilled to continue work alongside Professor Tracy Daszkiewicz in her role as President, supporting her leadership during this critical time for Public Health.
“With widening health inequalities and an NHS under immense pressure, the faculty has a vital opportunity to shape policies that will impact future generations. I am honoured to have this chance to make the mission of the faculty a reality across the four nations and continue to have an impact globally. I feel the role will be of real practical benefit to MPFT as the Trust works to scale up its prevention work in line with the NHS 10 Year Plan.”
MPFT Chief Executive Neil Carr said: “We are immensely proud to see Professor Iqbal taking up the Vice President role for the UK Faculty of Public Health. This is an honour for MPFT and it is great to see that Zafar’s leadership for Public Health is recognised nationally. MPFT was one of the early Trusts to appoint a Public Health specialist and under his leadership MPFT have made great strides to put population health and prevention at the forefront alongside patient care.”
Congratulating Prof Iqbal on his appointment, outgoing FPH President Professor Kevin Fenton said: “I have worked with Zafar over many years and am delighted that he is taking on this role and I know that he will be a very strong advocate for the work of the NHS in population health and prevention.”
FPH is the UK's leading professional body for Public Health specialists and practitioners, with a membership of around 6,000 public health professionals within the UK and almost 80 countries globally.
