Norbury House is a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), within St George's Hospital in Stafford. It is an 11-bed adult male only environment and provides treatment for patients who require additional support during their recovery, support that cannot be provided by an open inpatient setting. It is a locked door facility, which means that entry and exit from the ward is controlled by staff.
All of the 11 bedrooms are single occupancy, providing an element of privacy. There are 3 shared bathrooms which include either a bath or shower.
On the ward, there is also:
Parking is free, but there is a Number Plate Recognition system in use at this site. You must register your car number plate (ask staff when you arrive) to avoid a fine. There is a 30-minute grace period, during which, no fine will be issued.
There is no dedicated parking for Norbury House.
On the ward, various activities are held including cooking sessions, arts/crafts, virtual reality sessions (pilot scheme), and a weekly music group with an external professional musician.
In addition to the garden attached to the ward, patients are assessed for access to a dedicated garden with raised beds. This is shared by other wards and patients are supervised during gardening activities should they want to get involved.
Once a patient’s mental health has improved, they will be assessed to be able to leave the ward with staff for access to other activities. Previously patients have attended the local leisure centre to go swimming or take a walk in the local park. They may also have access to Stafford town centre should they wish to go shopping or access the banks. All are within walking distance from the ward.
We can facilitate visits throughout the daytime. We usually start visits from 9.30am; all visits must end by 7.30pm.
We ask visitors to try and avoid visiting during meal times (12pm-1pm and 5pm-6pm).
Please speak to a member of the ward team to book a visit.
