There may be other locations available where we are using our Mobile Screening Vans. These locations vary and have limited capacity.

Ambulance Service Transport (AST) information

  • Bookings are accepted subject to eligibility. To book, call 0330 380 0515
  • Appointments requiring AST should only be booked for the morning to allow time for collection after screening.
  • You may find that the wait time for collection is longer than expected. Please be prepared and ensure you have food/refreshments and any required medications with you.
  • Please attend with a relative, friend or carer as we are unable to assist with use of facilities.

Using mobility scooters following screening

There is no legal eyesight requirement to drive mobility scooters or powered wheelchairs, but you should be able to read a car’s registration number from a distance of 12.3 metres (40 feet). You must check that you can still do this regularly.

Driving and operation of heavy machinery

Your eyes will be dilated using drops during the screening which many impact your vision for up to 4-6 hours. This can make your eye sight blurred for the duration of this time. You should not attempt to drive or operate heavy machinery until the effects of the drops have worn off. If you have driven to the appointment, the screening will not be able to proceed and you will be rebooked for another time when you have not driven.

What to bring with you to your appointment

  • Sunglasses or tinted/light reactive glasses: You will be sensitive to the light following the screening until the effects of the drops have worn off.
  • Distance glasses: These will help in achieving the best possible reading when you read the vision chart during your screening.
  • If you require any form of assistance, please bring a relative, friend or carer with you as the screener will not be able to provide assistance.
  • Please make sure you have any food/refreshments you may need during the screening to prevent any diabetic episodes. Make sure you have any medications you may need during the appointment with you.

If you require an interpreter or communicator, please contact us as soon as possible.

Thank you
