Songs for You Awarded £200 from ASDA Green Token Scheme page thumbnail

Local people have supported Stafford’s Songs for You sessions by donating their green tokens to ASDA’s community grants project.

Songs for You is led by Arts for Health at Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. The fun filled singing sessions for people living well with dementia and their carers or loved ones (also open to other older adults) have been awarded £200.

Songs for You allows people to meet, socialise and engage in an activity in a friendly environment. People can have a good natter, cup of tea and cake and sing songs ranging from The Beatles, Presley and Sinatra to songs dating back to the 30s and 40s.

Project lead Helen Wilson says “Songs for You helps people reconnect and enjoy having quality time together. Singing is a positive and evocative tool helping people with dementia to reconnect themselves and their history through recalled songs and lyrics. These sessions are often their highlight of the week. Having this donation from ASDA Stafford will help us to continue to have an experienced musician to lead the singing and also offer refreshments.”

Each year ASDA invest over £1.4 million in over 4,000 good causes through their Green Token Giving programme, giving back to organisations in their local area.

The next Songs for You session in Stafford will be on Monday 3rd September 1.30pm at Walton Village Hall, Green Gore Lane, Walton on the Hill, Stafford ST17 0LD.
