Physiotherapist Jan recognised for 50 years’ service page thumbnail

Physio Jan Sanders received a Lifetime Achievement Award at Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust’s Better Together Awards.

Jan qualified in London in 1968 as has spent her whole life working in and out of the NHS as well as abroad – she spent many years in South Africa, returning to the UK in the 1990s.

Jan is the clinical domiciliary lead for the adult physiotherapy service across the Stoke, Moorlands and Newcastle teams and is based at Bentilee Neighbourhood Centre. Before reducing her hours a couple of years ago, Jan also worked on the rehabilitation ward – Jackfield Ward – at the Haywood Hospital.

She is a highly valued and respected member of the physiotherapy service and domiciliary team and is committed to setting the highest standards as a clinical lead within the service, but she is also popular with her colleagues who all speak of her with great fondness.

Her wealth of knowledge and experience are invaluable and her unwavering work ethic and motivation provides inspiration to all and any new starters within the team.

Rachel McKeown, Director of Allied Health Professionals at the Trust said: “It is a wonderful achievement to celebrate 50 years of practice within physiotherapy and colleagues were keen to recognise Jan’s clear and continued passion for the quality of care she gives her patients. With no sign of her slowing down we would like to thank her for her invaluable contribution to physiotherapy over the past 50 years.”

Midlands Partnership’s Better Together Awards are designed to recognise exceptional contributions to service, by individuals and teams, by clinical and non clinical staff. Over 165 nominations were received for eight competitive awards and following a rigorous process, supported by some of the Trust’s Governor Members and service users, the best entries were shortlisted, only finding out if they were winners on the night. Two lifetime achievement awards were also made by the Executive Directors of the Trust.

380 local NHS staff attended the event, held on 8 November 2018 at the Staffordshire County Showground, which is also an important opportunity for sharing good practice and helping staff to understand their role in the wider service. Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust provides physical and mental health, learning disability and adult social care services across Staffordshire, Stoke-on-Trent and Shropshire, but also psychological therapies; drug and alcohol services in prisons; and care for serving MOD personnel across the country.

Neil Carr, Chief Executive said: “One of the Trust’s core objectives is to make this a fantastic place to work where staff feel positive and proud to be part of the organisation. We know that we cannot deliver effective services without well trained and supported staff and believe that offering real recognition in the form of this awards ceremony has a real part to play in creating an enthusiastic, committed and confident workforce.”
