An interim autism service supporting children, young people and their families in south Staffordshire has been launched by Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

The Trust was recently confirmed by the Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) serving south Staffordshire as the provisional provider of autism services in the area.

As interim host provider, MPFT’s Children and Young People’s Autism Service will support families until the formal procurement process is completed by the CCGs and a new contract awarded for autism services in the south of the county.

The Trust has been working with both the CCGs and the previous provider to ensure as smooth a transition as possible for patients, carers and their families who are current users of the service or awaiting an assessment.

Once patient information has been received and reviewed, MPFT will prioritise getting in touch with families to let them know next steps.

More information about the service can be found by visiting www.mpft.nhs.uk/services/children-and-young-people-autism-service.

Referrals into the service need to be made by a professional who has met with the child and family. The service can be accessed by calling 0300 303 0691 between the hours of 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday (excluding Bank Holidays).

Claire Bailey, Managing Director of MPFT’s Children and Families Care Group said: “We fully recognise this will be an uncertain time for the children, young people and their families who are users of this service.

“Their patience is very much appreciated while we complete the safe transfer of patient records and we will be in contact with families as soon as possible. We are absolutely committed to providing quality care and look forward to working with the children and families of south Staffordshire.”
