Why did you choose an apprenticeship?

  • I have worked within a multi disciplinary team for many years within the community alongside Nurses, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapist. Having been exposed to these different roles I have always felt more drawn to Physiotherapy and the impact they can have on a person’s life enabling and supporting people to restore movement and function following an injury, illness or disability.

  • There is a lot to learn academically and practically and at the start it can seem daunting, but if you can match the modules to the work you currently do, it will help with this, and use your work knowledge and experience to enhance the apprenticeship.  Always try and look and plan to the end of the modules or the apprenticeship as a whole, as this helps you understand what needs to be done and when, and can help with balancing work/study/life.

Why did you choose an apprenticeship?

  • At the age of 53 I would not be able to step out of work to study full time and would struggle to study part time and maintain a full time job. I plan to continue to be a “work based supervisor” for new students on placement and hope my learning will be of benefit to them.

What would you say to anyone considering an apprenticeship?

  • In the words of Nike – “Just Do It”.

Be confident in yourself, if you`ve worked in an area for any length of time you will have knowledge and skills that you can bring to the apprenticeship  and then build on them for your own personal and professional growth.

I’ve met some great people on my course, made new friends and really had my horizons broadened.
